About Angel Cepeda:

I was raised in a humble but loving home with strong family values by parents who stressed service to others.  My dad was a Baptist minister, my mom a leader of several service organizations both in NY and Texas.  From an early age I learned the importance of giving back to others and to be grateful for all the opportunities afforded me by this wonderful country of ours.

I believe in public education and realize how important it is to provide each child the very best educational opportunities possible in order to optimize their potential for success.  I attended Newtown HS in Queens, NY, Pre-engineering Program, Queens College, NY, Computer Science; New York University, NY, Advanced Systems Design Program; I am a CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor); CISM (Certified Information Security Manager); member ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners).  I am proud to say that among my immediate family I have two teachers and a bi-lingual speech pathologist.

My success in the business sector has been through dedication, hard work and the development of strong working relationships to meet goals and enhance the value of the organization.  Since July of 1990 I have worked at Paul Scherer & Company LLP, NYC, a full service professional accounting firm, presently as IT Audit Manager.  Prior to this I worked on Wall Street for BankAmerica International, NYC, in the Internal Control & Audit department.  I have lectured and given seminars on various finance, audit and technology subjects to both professional associations and the private business sector.

I am blessed to be a thirteen year resident of Plainview, with a loving wife Marlene Garber and two wonderful daughters, Candice attending JFK HS and Alexa attending Mattlin Middle School.  As parents we impart the value of service to our daughters by example, Marlene is active in PTA and in 07-08 will serve as Mattlin Membership VP and Council Delegate; I currently serve on the Finance Committee of Shelter Rock Church, Syosset/Manhasset, NY; 1991 served a two year term as treasurer on the Board of Directors for Forest Hills South Inc., in Forest Hills, NY; for the past several years have provide pro-bono tax preparation assistance to seniors, single mothers and needy families.

My willingness to serve on the Board of Education is born of the desire to make our schools more successful, both academically and financially.    As a Board of Education Trustee my goal will be to turn our district from an academically underachieving high-cost operation to a high-achievement reasonable cost operation.  Let me be perfectly clear, I do not advocate cutting services.  I advocate identifying ways to make those services more efficient and effective.  I ask that you to give me the opportunity to contribute my skills and abilities to its leadership and my talents and experience to shaping its future.  I respectfully ask for your support.
